Stephen O'Neill ('93) Cross Country & Track
The main reason that Steve O'Neill transferred to Adrian College from Hillsdale was to try to reach his potential as a runner. After seeing how his brother excelled under coach Forest "Rock" Haines, Steve decided to give the Adrian cross country and track coach a try. Soon he experienced what he called "Rock-tailored workouts," including being dropped off miles away in the town of Hudson and told to run home to Adrian.

Whether or not it was the unconventional workouts, Steve did reach his potential. He set Adrian College records in the 3,000 meter run, 3,000 meter steeplechase, 5,000 meter run and the 10,000 meter run. His records in the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs still stand today. Steve was a three-year letterwinner in both sports, was the co-recipient of the Outstanding Senior Athlete award and was All-MIAA in track and cross country.

Steve is a sergeant at the Adrian Post of the Michigan State Police. He lives in Owosso with his wife, Teresa, and their two children, Ryan and Grace.
