TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Bulldogs dropped a 4-3 decision at Rose-Hulman on Saturday in their second game of the day snapping a brief two-game winning streak. The bullpen had a strong game throwing 3.2 innings and allowing one unearned run which unfortunately proved to be the winning run for the Engineers in the bottom of the eighth inning. Adrian once again struck first scoring twice in the top of the first as Chad Meyer smacked a two-run single scoring Bobby Rickstad and Alex Cowart to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Adrian left runners on second and third in the inning which would later prove to be big. Rose-Hulman scored once in the fourth and two more times in the fifth off starter Adam Stone to take a 3-2 lead after five complete innings. Stone left with one out in the fifth and was credited with 4.1 innings pitched allowing five hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts. Adrian tied the game in the sixth with two outs as Steve Vanderheyden singled home Jake Cappelletty with the tying run from second base. Rose-Hulman got the game-winning run in the eighth as a one-out walk issued by Tim Parent came around to score on a one-out single. Parent (0-1) went 0.2 innings and allowed one hit with a strikeout. Rickstad recorded the final two outs on the mound and was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk and run scored. Vanderheyden went 2-for-4 with an RBI and tallied four infield assists at second base. Adrian (7-2) will get a chance at revenge as the same two teams will play a nine-inning game beginning at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. |
