MCHA Gets New Year Started With Non-Conference Action
The Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association returned to the ice with a weekend of non-conference contests last weekend. Adrian College won its only game of the weekend, topping Geneseo, 7-4, to maintain its hold on first place in the nation in scoring at 5.69 goals per game (second place Neumann averages 5.31). Marian split its first game back on the ice, topping Gustavus Adolphus, 4-0, and falling to No. 6 UW-River Falls. MSOE dropped a home-and-home series to No. 1 St. Norbert, Concordia dropped a pair to Hamline and Lawrence and Finlandia also lost their first games of 2008.

It's back to conference action this weekend, with all eight teams squaring off, including a pivotal series between MSOE and Marian.

Players of the Week
-Adrian College Bulldog freshman forward Shawn Skelly (Wolverine Lake, Mich.) earns his first MCHA Player of the Week award, cited for his impressive stat line in Adrian's victory over Geneseo. Not only did he record a hat trick, but also tallied the game-winning goal and two other assists to have a hand in five of the team's seven goals in the 7-4 victory. With 31 points on the season (14G/17A), he is currently the highest-scoring freshman at the NCAA D-III level.

-Marian College Sabres junior goalie Jason Jadczak (Des Plains, Ill.) is the MCHA Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Marian's two games last weekend. The marketing major got both starts, stopping 33 of 36 shots for a save percentage of .917 against No. 6 River Falls Friday. On Saturday, he recorded the shutout by stopping all 20 Gustavus Adolphus shots. For the weekend, he stopped 53 of 56 shots for a save percentage of .946, boosting his season totals to a .936 save percentage and a 2.00 goals against average.

-Adrian College Bulldog freshman defenseman Chris Stansik (Livonia, Mich.) gives the Bulldogs two of the three weekly awards by earning MCHA Freshman of the Week honors. He tallied two assists and was +4 on the ice in his team's win over Geneseo.
