Adrian Knocks Off No. 7 Neumann; MSOE Sweeps Lake Forest to Open Season

The 10th season of play in the Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association is under way, and by the looks of it, is off to a great start. League newcomer Adrian College started things off last week, posting a 9-1 win over Potsdam in its first-ever game Oct. 19. They upped the ante this weekend, knocking off No. 7 Neumann Sunday, overcoming a 6-2 deficit with four third-period goals to force overtime, before winning 7-6. They also lost a heartbreaker, 3-2, on Saturday after jumping out to a 2-0 lead. The victory marks the eighth time an MCHA team has beaten (or tied) an opponent ranked in the Top 10 in the nation.

MSOE got its season off to a 2-0 start, sweeping Lake Forest for the first time in school history in the home-and-home weekend series. Marian opened against #12 UW-Stout, playing the Blue Devils even throughout the game, with the contest tied 5-5 until a late Stout goal won it. Northland was on the ice as well, falling to #12 Stout and to UW-River Falls .

Players of the Week
- Adrian College junior forward Adam Krug ( Livonia , Mich. ) gives the Bulldogs their first MCHA Player of the Week award in their first opportunity. Krug played brilliantly in Adrian 's season-opening win, scoring twice and assisting the game-winner. Then, this past Sunday, he played a key role in helping his team beat the No. 7 team in the country. He had a goal and three assists in the game and had a hand in three of the four goals that the Bulldogs scored in the comeback third period. -Milwaukee School of Engineering freshman goaltender Chris Keller ( Amherst , NY ) is the first MCHA Defensive Player of the Week this season. He helped MSOE record its first-ever sweep of Lake Forest , starting both games on the weekend. He ended with a 1.96 GAA and .932 save percentage. Other Nominees: Jeremy Klaver ( Adrian ), Daniel McIntosh (Northland)

- Adrian College freshman forward Eric Miller (Erlanger, Kent.) gives the Bulldogs two out of three award winners with the MCHA Freshman of the Week honor. He recorded three points (1G/2A) in the home-opening win to start things off. He then went on to add two goals and two assists in Adrian's 7-6 OT win over Neumann, including lighting the lamp for the tying goal with just 21 seconds left in regulation. He has accumulated nine points (4G/5A) though just four games in 2007-08. Other Nominees: Todd Collins (Marian), Tony Huberty (Northland), Daniel McIntosh (Northland), Chris Keller (MSOE)
