Click here for the full MCHA Weekly Report Three Teams Earn Weekend Sweeps In League Action Finlandia, Adrian and MSOE all earned sweeps on a busy weekend, propelling each to an early lead in the overall standings. Adrian's was noteworthy, as it came in its first-ever weekend set in league play, as the Bulldogs got past Lawrence by scores of 9-2 and 4-3. The Raiders grabbed the top spot by improving to 3-1 in MCHA action, defeating Minnesota-Crookston by scores of 5-3 and 7-4. The Lions opened their season with a bang, upending Concordia in its first-ever league games by scores of 10-3 in the opener and 5-2 Saturday. Finlandia's Josh Paquette did not wait long to break the all-time MCHA scoring mark, assisting Ryan Sullivan's first goal of the night Friday at the 19:10 mark of the first period. He finished with three assists in the game and now has career totals of 102 points on 39 goals and 63 assists. Paquette entered play this season tied with former Marian College forward Dan Odegard (42G/57A), each with 99 points on the all-time list. Former MSOE forward Brian Soik's record of 66 career assists will be the next target in his sights. In other action, Marian fell to #15 Bethel Friday and then almost pulled the upset Saturday. The Sabres were up 3-0 but a Bethel comeback prevented the big victory. Northland was also in action, falling to UW-Superior Tuesday. The league continues to have two teams receiving votes in the national Top 15 poll, as MSOE and Finlandia appeared once again in the new poll released today among "others receiving votes".
Players of the Week -Finlandia University Lions sophomore defenseman Ross Rouleau ( Hancock , MI ) stepped right in to the start of his season to earn MCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors. He had three assists in Friday's victory and added a goal Saturday. For the weekend, he had four points and was +4 on the ice. - Minnesota -Crookston Golden Eagles freshman forward Alex Maginnis ( Mason City , IA ) earns his first MCHA Freshman of the Week award for his efforts against defending league champ MSOE. He scored three goals (two on the power play) and added an assist in two games on the weekend. He leads the team with six points this year. |
