David Kurvink enters his second year as the head tennis coach at Adrian College. In his inaugural season with the Bulldogs, Kurvink selected a tough dual match schedule. The women's team earned a victory over an NCAA qualifying team while the men had their best season in recent history. In his first year, Kurvink led six female ITA Scholar Athletes and two male ITA Scholar Athletes, a distinction for which a student-athlete must achieve at least a 3.5 GPA. The women's team was honored with both the 2007 MIAA Team GPA award and the ITA All-Academic Team award. The ITA recognizes only 60 teams in the country with this prestigious award. Prior to coaching at AC, Kurvink was the assistant men's and women's tennis and squash coach at St. Lawrence University. In his time with the Saints, he received Liberty League coaching staff of the year honors while guiding the women's team to one of their most successful seasons in history. Additionally, one of Kurvink's doubles teams made an appearance at the National Small College Championships. Kurvink is a 2003 graduate of Moravian College where he was a four-time all-conference tennis player. As a Greyhound, Kurvink was named team MVP on three occasions while also serving as a team captain. He posted a career record of 50-17, which surpassed the previous school record of 30 career wins at that time. After spending a year at Van Der Meer Tennis Academy, Kurvink is now a USPTR teaching professional and has coached for over ten years in a variety of international training academies. He served as co-director of tennis for Embrace Your Dreams, a program designed specifically for underprivileged youth. In the summers of 2005 and 2006, Kurvink was a Head Teaching Professional at Newfield Tennis Club in Stamford, Conn. where he ran programs for adult and junior team programs. In the summer of 2007, Kurvink had an opportunity to work at the nationally renowned Bridges Family Resort and Tennis Club (Vt.) where he was a head professional and played weekly exhibition matches. The Bridges resort is ranked among the Top 10 Greatest U.S. Tennis Resorts by Tennis Magazine. Kurvink holds a bachelor of arts degree in clinical and counseling psychology and also holds a masters of education in school counseling and development. |
