VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Lady Bulldog women's basketball team dropped a 62-55 decision at Virginia Wesleyan on Friday afternoon at the Cox Communications Tournament. Adrian struggled to find a rhythm in the first half and trailed 32-17 at the break. AC shot just 29.6 percent and were 0-of-5 from the arc and 1-of-4 at the charity stripe. Adrian never led in the contest as VWC scored the game's first five points and never looked back. The Bulldogs trailed by six at 13-7 at the 13:14 mark of the first half and did not get any closer until 14 seconds left in the game cutting the lead to 61-55. Neither team shot a high percentage as Adrian finished the game going 19-of-63 (.302) while Virginia Wesleyan was 21-of-66 (.318). AC committed 26 turnovers while VWC miscued 20 times. Tonia Jones led Virginia Wesleyan with 13 points and 11 boards. Ashley McClarren led Adrian with 12 points on 5-of-7 from the floor and 2-of-2 at the line. She also had seven boards in 26 minutes. Liz Hafeli nearly notched a double-double with nine points and a team-high 11 boards in 30 minutes. Kim Olech went 7-of-10 at the line but just 2-of-6 from the floor finishing with 11 points, five rebounds, four steals and two blocks. Adrian gave themselves extra chances with 16 offensive boards and 51 total rebounds. Adrian was also 16-of-22 at the charity stripe (.727). |
