ADRIAN, Mich. - The Adrian College women's basketball team found the road to success a rough one to travel in 2006-07. The team had a 6-3 record in the non-conference portion of their schedule but once MIAA play began it became a struggle to get into the win column as the team posted a 3-13 conference mark. Head Coach Kathy Morris believes that this year's team learned some valuable lessons and are ready to take the next step in 2007-08. "I really like what I see early on. We have a team that has worked extremely hard in the off-season, and continues to bring it to the court. We return a solid group of players from last year. Our freshmen gained valuable playing time last year, and understand now what it takes to compete at this level." It helps to know that the top four scorers on the team last year will once again wear a Bulldog uniform in 2007-08. Sophomore Kim Olech (Canton, Mich./Plymouth HS) did something that most players never accomplish and that was lead your team in scoring as a freshman. Olech averaged 9.5 points per game and also ranked high in the conference with 8.8 rebounds per contest. Olech recorded three double-doubles last year and scored in double figures in 12 games. Senior Nichole Roose (Utica, Mich./Lutheran North HS) provides strong leadership in the backcourt. Roose ranked second on the team in scoring a year ago at 8.6 points per game. She started in all 25 contests and led the team with 38 triples while nearly leading Division III in free-throw shooting percentage making 56-of-58 (.966) at the charity stripe. Sophomore Anita Stamps (River Rouge, Mich./Inter City Baptist) did not see a lot of minutes averaging 19 per game. She did however make the most of her playing time averaging eight points per game. Stamps recorded 29 assists and 27 steals as a freshman. |
