ADRIAN, Mich. - The Fontbonne University Griffins used a 5-0 scoring run in the first period to take a 12-9 win from the Adrian College Bulldogs on Saturday night. Ashley Starkey gave the Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead just 1:16 into the contest on an unassisted goal. The Griffins, however, scored five straight goals before the Bulldogs were able to respond to take a 5-1 lead at the 17:29 mark in the first half. Megan Bouwens responded for Adrian by starting her impressive scoring night with her first goal of the night with 13:14 left in the first half to make the game 5-2. After a Griffin goal, Bouwens struck again to make the game 6-3. The Griffins closed out the first half with two more goals and opened the second half with their ninth goal of the game on a free position opportunity. Down 9-3, the Bulldogs had a comeback on their minds and went on a five-goal spree of their own. Bouwens collected three of the five goals for Adrian while Sierra Roberts and Erin Roach each chipped in a goal of their own. Bouwens would score her sixth goal of the game with 7:48 left in the contest to cut the Griffins' lead to 10-9. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, that would be their final goal of the game as Fontbonne added two more goals late in the contest to take the 12-9 win. Amanda Farone took the tough loss in goal while making five saves on the night. The Bulldogs will have a quick turn-around to their next contest as they host the University of Dallas tomorrow morning. The Bulldogs and the Lady Crusaders will take to the field for a 10:30 a.m. game tomorrow at the Multisport Performance Stadium at Adrian College. |
