ADRIAN, Mich. - In a back-and-forth type of game, the Adrian College women's lacrosse team used a late offensive surge to take a 20-17 win over the Lady Crusaders of the University of Dallas. Andrea Soloko put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard first to give Adrian the 1-0 lead just 49 seconds into the contest. Mariana DiGiovanni gave the Bulldogs their second lead of the game at 3:01 into the game to give the home team the 2-1 advantage. After a Lady Crusader 3-0 run, Megan Bouwens notched her first goal of the game just over ten minutes in to cut the Bulldog deficit to one goal. The Bulldogs then scored four of the six goals of the rest of the half to take a 7-6 lead into halftime. Amanda Beger and Bouwens each netted a goal while DiGiovanni scored back-to-back goals to put Adrian up at the half. The second half was much the same as the first half in that the two teams traded a lot of goals back and forth. The only exception is that the two teams combined for 24 goals in the final 30 minutes of game time with the Bulldogs outscoring the Lady Crusaders by a 13-11 margin. Bouwens, DiGiovanni, and Soloko combined for 12 of the 13 goals in the second half with Ashley Starkey adding the thirteenth goal for the Bulldogs. The difference for the Bulldogs was how they responded to having to play a person down on their fourth yellow card infraction. Instead of crumbling and allowing the Lady Crusaders to take control of the game, the Bulldogs held the Lady Crusaders to one goal while scoring a goal of their own to keep the game tight late in the second half. Up by just one goal with less than 5:30 minutes left, the Bulldogs struck twice to stretch their lead to three goals and pick up the 20-17 win. Amanda Faraone picked up her fifth win of the season in goal while making five saves. The Bulldogs (5-5) will take to the road twice this upcoming week when they travel to Wittenberg University and Ohio Wesleyan University on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively. |
